Stavanger is situated in the south-western corner of Norway. The climate is typical Atlantic ocean climate with mild winters and somewhat cooler summers than what is found further south in the country.
With a population of 117 000, the municipality of Stavanger and the city of Stavanger is centrally located in a larger living and work region known as the Stavanger region or North-Jæren region. Stavanger is Norway's 4th largest city, 3rd largest city region.
